A Bit About Therapy With Me

Seeking some extra support is a brave and hopeful step.  You are likely here because you are experiencing pain, sadness, anger, or anxiety.  Maybe those feelings are new after a big change in your life, or maybe they have been there for you as long as you can remember.  Either way those  concerns are likely taking up a lot of space in your mind, and you have done everything in your power to try to avoid feeling that way.

Culturally, we have a hard time accepting those more challenging thoughts and emotions.  There is often a push to just “think positively” or “fix” the very thoughts and feelings that make us human. My hope is for us to use our time together to help you approach those harder feelings with curiosity and acceptance and connect with the things that really matter to you, rather than having your thoughts and feelings make your decisions for you.

I have training and experience in different treatment approaches and lean heavily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.  I also have training in Trauma Focused CBT, DBT, Polyvagal Theory, and Written Exposure Therapy for PTSD, and ERP.    I typically utilize an eclectic mix of models to best support the individual needs of clients.  I also offer ERP (Exposure Response Prevention) a specialized, evidence-based treatment program for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  This treatment program is the gold standard for treating OCD, is typically 15-20 sessions, with a minimum of weekly sessions.

Regardless of the approach used in therapy, I strongly believe in the power of a therapeutic relationship to create change.  My work is trauma-informed, strengths based, and I am a trained LGBTQ+ ally.  I strive to build a genuine and warm therapeutic relationship with you.  I bring my own humor, curiosity, empathy, and honesty to each session.  We’ll use our time to process and sit with challenging thoughts and feelings while developing some new skills and strategies to find a path forward towards a more meaningful life.  This is your time, and we are a team in this work.  I encourage you to ask me questions, be honest with me, and give me feedback about what's working or not.  I promise to be honest with you in return.  I look forward to getting to know you and starting this work together.

My Practice

I own a small, private practice, which means when you reach out, it’s me you’ll connect with—from our first contact to our last session. I love running my own practice and plan to do this work for years to come.  Large agencies and virtual mental health conglomerates come with risks of high turnover, out of state providers, and concerns about the privacy of your data. I live and work in the same state and community as you, so I’m familiar with local resources and can offer guidance that’s relevant to your life.

My caseload is typically full, but if you feel we might be a good fit, reach out to join the waitlist. If openings are available, we’ll start with a phone consultation to ensure a good personal and logistical fit.

I predominantly see women, ages 18 and up, in-person at my Brunswick office, via telehealth across Maine, or a combination of both. Reach out, and we’ll find a solution that meets your needs.
